According to the article, "Unrestrained Fossil Fuel Burning Could Drown World's Major Cities", if the world burns all the fossil fuels, there would be so much global warming that Antarctica would melt. Burning fossil fuels causes CO2 emissions to increase, which cause the earth to become warmer, which makes the ice melt. It is known that the Antarctic ice is stable, but recent studies show that the west coast of Antarctica, which holds up to 10% percent of the continent's ice, is melting at an unstoppable rate. All of this melting could lead to having major cities like New York or London, under water. If we continue to burn fossil fuels at the current rates, in 60 to 80 years, the West Antarctic coast will be unstable, thus leading to rising sea levels. Within 11,000 years, all of Antarctica will melt. It's important that we make a change into sustainable energy. We would lose many beautiful cities because of our selfishness. "We have to decide if, by emitting greenhouse gases, we want to change the face of our planet as we know it and yield impacts that will affect many, many generations to come,"( Ricarda Winkelmann).
